Tips for Ordering Concrete
- Always order 5-10% extra to account for spillage, uneven ground, and settling
- Standard slab thickness is 4 inches (10 cm); driveways need 5-6 inches (13-15 cm)
- For over 1 cubic yard, consider ready-mix delivery instead of bags
- One 80 lb bag = 0.6 cubic feet; 60 lb bag = 0.45 cu ft; 40 lb bag = 0.3 cu ft
- Ready-mix concrete typically costs $125-150 per cubic yard (2024 prices)

How to Calculate Concrete
Calculating the amount of concrete you need is straightforward:
- Measure your project area - length and width for slabs, diameter for columns
- Determine the depth - typically 4" for patios, 5-6" for driveways
- Calculate cubic feet - Length x Width x Depth (all in feet)
- Convert to cubic yards - Divide cubic feet by 27
- Add 10% extra - For spillage and uneven surfaces
Formula: Cubic Yards = (Length × Width × Depth) ÷ 27
